Project  /  Expected impact

The following items present the expected impacts of Project COSMOS, as set out in the project’s objectives. They reflect the project’s contribution to environmental sustainability, socio-economic development, and scientific progress. Each point identifies a specific area in which the project is expected to deliver tangible benefits and generate measurable, long-term impact, in alignment with European policy priorities.

Widespread adoption of sustainable agroforestry practices through technical guidelines, training materials, policy recommendations, and a multi-actor approach, leading to increased tree cover, improved landscape resilience, and greater participation of women farmers.

Enhanced agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods by improving farmers’ skills, creating value chains, supporting market access, and developing innovative business models, including agro-/myco-/gastro-tourism and certification schemes.

Improved soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services (e.g., fertility, carbon sequestration, efficient water use) by reducing chemical inputs, diversifying farming systems, and aligning with EU Green Deal objectives.

Increased resilience to climate change through demonstration sites showcasing innovative agroforestry systems that buffer extreme weather events, enhance soil fertility and moisture retention, and reduce risks like forest fires

Strengthened knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement via Living Labs, workshops, and needs assessments to address technical, socio-economic, and policy challenges, especially those faced by women.

Long-term dissemination and policy integration ensuring the continuation of project impacts beyond its duration, supporting evidence-based decision-making and cross-country comparisons for agroforestry development in the Mediterranean region.
